Course programme

The Higher Childcare and Development Course enables learners to understand child development and factors that influence development from pre-birth to 16. Learners understand theories of development and the way these are applied to working with children and young people, and develop awareness of initiatives and strategies used to inform current childhood practice. Learners also develop awareness of current childhood practice and services, and understand the role and responsibilities of the professional and others in contributing to the development of children and young people.



One academic year

National 5 Childcare units are desirable or a keen interest in childcare and development.

With a vibrant, modern and innovative learning environment, the College is well equipped to ensure that students have the best facilities and resources to help develop their learning and skills. The College is an essential provider of a vast range of courses all focused on developing relevant skills for employment and to enhance current career prospects for those who are already working. For 2016-17 it was established that 86% of HN graduates at the College progressed into employment or further study.
