Course programme

This course is Level one of the therapy and science degree courses and is designed for health professionals who wish to add a recognised qualification in nutrition to their existing practice. Clients often seem to expect all health practitioners to be able to answer their queries about food and health; however, most health care practitioners are ill-equipped to provide meaningful answers to their clients’ queries about food and prefer not to answer such questions. Being able to offer quality information about food, give talks to groups and write about food and health, as well as analysing diets as part of your practice, is a very practical way to contribute to increasing public demand for understanding how food affects their health. This is a stand-alone certificate for health care professionals.

Students who register for the full therapy or science degree courses, who complete Level one and decide not to continue with the course, will also be eligible for this qualification. Currently students completing Level one of the therapy degree course are eligible for this certificate so long as they have no intention of rejoining the course at a later date. The qualification in this instance is not a stand-alone certificate unless you also happen to be a health care professional.

Students must be registered with MU in order to gain this Award. Should you wish to complete a different degree at MU or another university, you should be able to transfer your credits to a new course, subject to the relevance of the modules on a new programme. Also see course details for the Dietary Educator Certificate.

If you qualify as a therapist in another discipline after completing this course, you can apply to us following qualification for authorisation to use this HE Certificate qualification. Applications are considered on an individual basis.
