Overview
The History of Medicine Intercalated BSc degree is an interdepartmental study course that examines health and disease in past societies. The course covers key aspects of the medical history of London, and the historical significance of The School of Medical Education, exploring the social, political, economic and institutional forces that have shaped medicine and its sciences. This course aims to deliver insights and understanding of the history of medicine, and develop the skills that are required to investigate and interpret the past. It offers students a unique opportunity to expand their horizons, to develop fresh perspectives on their discipline, and enhance their interpretive, analytical and writing skills.

Year 1
The History of Medicine iBSc is a one year degree. Courses are divided into modules. You will normally take modules totalling 120 credits.
Required Modules You are required to take the following modules:
- History of Medicine from Antiquity to the Present (30 credits)
- Medical Historical Sources, Methods and Approaches (15 credits)
- Group III History of medicine module (30 credits)
- An associated dissertation on a medical historical topic, to be agreed with the course leader (30 credits)
- Global crises: Thinking Historically about science & Technology in the 21st Century (15 credits)
- History & Memory I (15 credits)
- Health surveillance & the modern British state (15 credits)
- Any level-five, 15-credit module from the History BA catalogue, subject to approval.
- Any level-six, 30-credit module from the History BA.
