Overview At a glance Entry is via QTAC. This qualification reflects the role of pre-hospital and out-of-hospital workers employed by State/Territory ambulance authorities, the Australian Defence Force and the private sector to provide patient assessment, healthcare and transport services. These workers possess clinical skills and theoretical knowledge and provide clinical assessment and pre-hospital and out-of-hospital interventions to patients in an emergency, including providing advanced skills in life support. This qualification applies to a variety of roles including paramedic and emergency medical technician. Application Mode Distance Courses/Units Seventeen (17) units must be successfully completed - nine (9) core units and eight (8) electives. Availability Distance Education Duration12 months duration includes clinical placement Intake Dates Commences: VFH 1: 1st February 2016 and VFH 5: 11th July 2016. Next intake in 2017. Hours of Study Approximately 1200 hours of study time will be involved however, the training duration will depend on the electives and study mode selected. Compulsory unpaid simulation activities and clinical placement of 160 hours are included within the total hours for this course. Offerings Distance Education

This course is available by Distance Education.

There are three residential blocks through the duration of the program:

1. Delivering clinical care 5 days

2. Managing the scene of an emergency 5 days

3. Transporting in an emergency 3 days


There are two placements through the duration of the program:

Clinical placement 60 hours, placement in a health care facility or agency

Clinical placement 40 hours, placement at special events

Commences: VFH 1: 1st February 2016 and VFH 5: 11th July 2016. Next intake in 2017.
