You will gain a sound understanding of installing computer networks and general hardware/software support. On completion students may progress to the second year of a relevant HND.

About this course
One Higher or equivalent in any subject plus three Standard Grade passes or a group of suitable SQA modules. Applicants with relevant industrial experience may be admitted without formal qualifications.

Course Aims:
As computer systems become more complex, there is a demand in industry for those who can combine practical skills in local area network design and troubleshooting. You will gain a sound understanding of installing computer networks and general hardware/software support. On completion students may progress to the second year of a relevant HND.
Course Content:
Building Local Area Networks. Hardware Installation & Maintenance. Computer Operating Systems. Network technology & Communications. Supporting Users & Troubleshooting a Desktop Operating System. Supporting Users & Troubleshooting Desktop Applications.
Progression Opportunities:
Successful students can progress onto Year 2 of HND Computing: Technical Support. An HNC is also usually accepted for entry into the first year of related degree courses at university.
Career Potential:
Successful students will be capable of working as a PC technician, LAN installation technician, IT support technician or PC Helpdesk.
Course Assessment:
Continuous assessment is employed throughout the course. Most subjects will have a combination of observation-based practical assessments, class-based and project-based assessments.
