About this course

Applicants should possess three Higher Grade passes at level C or above, or two Higher Grade passes plus significant experience in child care, or NC Early Education & Child Care (or another relevant NC qualification).

HNC Early Education & Child Care

Course Aims:
This full-time course entitles you to apply for full registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and to gain employment in the early education and child care sector. All students are required to make a health declaration, provide appropriate personal references and submit a satisfactory Disclosure Scotland application.

Course Content:
Theoretical Approaches to Child Development & Learning. Children & Young Peoples' Rights. Working in Early Education & Child Care: Practical Experience With Children. Additional Optional Units.

Progression Opportunities:
On successful completion, students may apply for entry to year 2 of some BA degree programmes. Applicants may also apply to undertake the PDA Early Education & Child Care. This HNC also constitutes the year 1 of BA Education & Social Services.

Career Potential:
On completion, you will be fully qualified to work within a wide range of early education and child care settings, including nursery schools, children and family centres, independent nurseries, creches and many more.

Course Assessment:
Students are assessed in a continuous way where you are encouraged to demonstrate your learning on a regular basis throughout the course. Methods range from assignments and projects to practical work with children. All theoretical assignments are related to practice.
