About this course

Two Higher Grade passes (or modular equivalent) with at least one from Maths, Physics, Computing, Electrical, Technological Studies or Electronics. Alternatively, an NC level award in an engineering discipline or relevant industrial experience is acceptable.

Course Aims:
This qualification allows you to seek employment in the electrical installation industry, electrical distribution/transmission industries and also maintenance facility functions in the manufacturing, service, petrochemical and associated industries. The qualification also allows entry to the HND course

Course Content:
Electrical Networks. Single Phase AC. Three Phase Systems. Electrical Machine Principles. Use of Electrical & Electronic Instrumentation. Application of Programmable Logic Controllers. Electrical Safety. Electricity Power Systems. Maths for Engineering. Communications.

Progression Opportunities:
Successful students can progress onto HND Electrical Engineering or to degree courses in electrical engineering.

Career Potential:
Opportunities exist in power generation and distribution, power control, electrical maintenance facilities in the manufacturing, petrochemical, service and electrical installation sector.

Course Assessment:
This course is assessed by written tests, practical laboratory exercises and assignments. At the end of the course an external exam is undertaken.
