Course information

The course is currently offered part-time and this day-release format is ideal for those working in engineering and related industries wishing to develop their knowledge and skills in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering. The HNC course runs over two years with an option to top-up the HNC to an HND on successful completion.

The main aim of the course is to provide students with a good understanding of the fundamentals of Engineering Sciences and Management with knowledge of how these can be applied in a wide range of industries to enable professional progression.
The units delivered on this course typically include:

Engineering Materials, Mechanical Engineering Science, Engineering Design, Analytical Methods, Project, Business Management Techniques, Quality Management, Planning and Scheduling, Manufacturing Processes, Design for Manufacture.

The course is based primarily on the philosophy of learning through doing. All theoretical and factual content is taught through the application to the solution of real engineering problems.

Progression

This course gives improved job prospects as there is a national and international shortage in this vocational area. This qualification is highly respected and valued in its own right as well as being a natural progression to top up to the HNC or a Degree. It can also lead to registration with the Engineering Council as an Incorporated Engineer.
