About this course

This course is for students wishing to pursue a career in the Creative Industries.

Depending on numbers, there will be an option for progression on to a HND at the college. The HNC in Graphic Design aims to train students not only to think creatively and interpret a brief with flair and originality but also to build a good looking practical portfolio of work that demonstrates the skill set and the mind-set that employers want from new designers. On completion of the HND you are able to progress to a one year top up to a BA (Degree) at many universities or directly into employment.

Graphic Designer, Art Director, Photo Manipulator, Type setter, Working for Magazines, Music Venues, Newspapers, Corporate Logodesign Agencies and Freelance.

We also aim to offer input on project management in Graphic Design to train students with those essential client facing skills along with the knowledge needed to set up as a freelance or small business.

• A portfolio of Art and Design or work that demonstrates creative work in Graphic Design or Graphic Arts

Five GCSEs at grade 4 minimum (formerly C), to include Maths and English, or an equivalent qualification, plus
• Two A Levels or equivalent Level 3 qualification e.g. BTEC National Diploma, or
• Subject related Level 3 Advanced Diploma is considered with other qualifications, or
• An Access to Higher Education Diploma
UCAS tariff points 48 from two full A Levels or equivalent, including one full A Level at 32 tariff points (i.e. grade C in a relevant subject)

Course programme

Course Content

The course will cover Editorial Design, Design for Marketing and Advertising, Photography for Graphic Applications, Digital Illustration and Animation, Design for the Web. The programme of study has been developed by professionals who have held senior posts at national creative companies and have also worked for high calibre regional employers in the creative sector. It is taught by practicing Graphic Designers so students will receive the high-quality, relevant knowledge and expertise that can be readily applied in the workplace.
