Applicants should have a minimum of 64 UCAS tariff points from a Computing-related, full level 3 qualification. Typically these are A-Levels, BTECs, GCE Applied or an Access to HE Diploma – but other equivalents (including international qualifications) will be considered. You should also have GCSE grade ‘C’ in English and maths. Alternatively, applicants with previous significant work experience or other relevant learning may be eligible via our APL process for accreditation towards this course.

Course programme

What you will study

Your first year of study (HNC) will consist of the following units:

• Programming
• Networking
• Professional Practice
• Database Design and Development
• Security
• Managing a Successful Computing Project
• Computer Systems Architecture
• Software Development Lifecycles

These units will give you grounding in the theories and practices of coding and developing business systems – along with the technical and mathematical abilities to understand how computers function. You will learn how to manage IT projects, and develop your communication, business knowledge and analysis skills (of equal importance to modern employers as the technical skills).

In the second (HND) year, you will continue your development in general computing skills, with a particular emphasis in software and systems development. The units will include:
