About this course

One Higher (which must be Technical or Science based), NC in Aeronautical Engineering or an NC in a technical or engineering discipline. Candidates may be accepted without the formal entry requirements and this selection will be based on an attending an information session.

Course Aims:
The first year of this course is the same as the HNC Aircraft Engineering. The HND year will significantly broaden your knowledge of aircraft systems and technologies. This year you will be involved in the production of a real single-seater sports aircraft (Hummel Bird). This class project will provide you with unparalleled opportunities to develop your practical skills.

Course Content:
As the HNC plus: Advanced Propulsion (Gas Turbines). Autoflight. Radar & Radio Systems. Avionics. Landing Gear. Aircraft Environmental Systems. Advanced Electronics for Aviation. Advnaced Electrical Principles for Aviation. CAD. Practical Engineering Skills. Manufacturing Principles. Hummel Bird - Project.

Progression Opportunities:
Possible progression routes are: BSc degree; EASA Part 66 Licensing; employment.

Career Potential:
There are excellent career opportunities at aeronautical engineering technician level. Technician level posts can be in design, manufacture or maintenance. This course prepares you particularly well for both the mechanical and avionics areas of aircraft maintenance.

Course Assessment:
The assessment strategy for this programme adopts both continuous assessment and an end of year Graded Unit on completion of each year.
