Subjects covered Year 1 In your first year you will develop the necessary skills to progress to year two through a combination of core and specialist units, examples of which are given below: Research skills Human computer interaction Website design Networking Database design concepts Business skills for e-commerce (core) Computer systems (core) Employability and professional development (core) Year 2 Project design, implementation and evaluation Knowledge-based systems Data analysis and design Data structures and algorithms Web applications development Computer games design and development Distributed software applications Programming Assessment A wide range of assessment methods are used in this programme, which have been chosen to suit the subject material being taught. The range of assessment methods you will experience will give you the confidence and capability to complete the course and to progress further in your career. Your Tutor will be on hand to provide support during the assessment process and discuss any queries you may have. The range of assessment methods used in this programme includes: In-class tests Assessed practical work Assessed coursework / assignments Formative assessment through assignment work feedback Practical demonstrations Examination Project presentation and report You will normally attend around hours of timetabled taught sessions each week, and are expected to undertake at least – further hours of independent study and assignments as required. On completion Over the course you will build up enough units to firstly achieve an HNC ( credits) and then continue to study sufficient additional units to develop your progression to an HND. Two years of full-time study lead to the award of an HND after which students may top up to the honours degree in Computing. Careers This is a suitable qualification for those wishing to change career, develop programming and new technologies skills or move into a particular area of employment following a career break.
