HND Mechanical Engineering

The HND in Mechanical Engineering is for individuals who wish to gain an Engineering Technician level qualification or else gain advanced entry into a degree programme. Covering all aspects of mechanical engineering, from fluid systems, material science and mechanical principles to statics, mathematics and dynamics the course also includes related subjects such as quality management and business awareness.

Although one of the oldest and most established types of engineering, mechanical engineers enjoy high levels of demand and are continually using new advances in technology to enable practitioners to perform calculations and make predictions more effectively than ever before. This means that in addition to traditional types of experiments and test equipment, you will also have access to some of the latest mechanical engineering design software around allowing systems to be pre-validated prior to building and providing the engineer with incredible levels of analytical data. In other words, mechanical engineering may have been around for some time but it is as up to date and progressive as any other engineering discipline. The qualification may be used as a means of finding employment at Engineering Technician level.

Progression to third year in the B. Eng. Mechanical Engineering at Napier University is achievable with suitable passes in the graded units. As with all engineering programmes, our aim is to make your time at West Lothian College as interesting and as much fun as possible and therefore, to this end, industrial visits, university visits and contact with people currently working in this exciting field are all part of the experience.
