About this course
Normally a minimum of two Higher passes at grade C in relevant disciplines (e.g. History, Modern Studies, English). Alternatively, a NQ (14 modules) in an appropriate discipline may be acceptable, pending a positive reference from the awarding centre. NOTE: Applicants who achieve 3 Higher Grades passes may be able to access the Diploma of Higher Education in Social Sciences.

COURSE CONTENT
A selection of core units includes:
YEAR 1:
Social Sciences: Research & Methodology; Graded Unit (A unit that develops skills and knowledge from several different disciplines offered on the course); Sociology A & B; Psychology A.
A selection of optional units includes:
YEAR 1:
Psychology; Politics; Economics; History; Philosophy; IT Applications; Literature. The availability of optional subjects may be dependent on popular demand.
YEAR 2:
Learners continue with more advanced work in same subject areas.
NOTE: Applicants who achieve 3 Higher Grades passes may be able to access the Diploma of Higher Education in Social Sciences.

PROGRESSION
Learners who achieve at least 12 credits conforming to HNC regulations will gain the Higher National Certificate. Learners with a minimum of 12 appropriate credit passes may progress to the 2nd year of the HND. Learners who successfully complete the course usually gain entry to a related degree course at one of Scotland`s universities, most commonly Glasgow Caledonian and Strathclyde Universities. However, we have had students who have gone on to study at Glasgow, Stirling, UWS and many other institutions of higher learning.
