Concessionary: TBA 18Month(s) What will I study?
Do you have a passion for horses? This programme offers you the opportunity to train whilst working in an equine setting, such as a show jumping yard, racing yard or riding school. Most employment will include weekend working and you will be required to develop your knowledge and practical skills whilst at work.
What modules are covered?There are currently 3 pathways to choose from - Horse Care, Horse Care & Riding and Horse Care Breeding. All 3 pathways require the completion of the following mandatory units:
201 Clean and maintain stables
202 Provide feed and water to horses
203 Carry out routine care and monitor the health and well-being of horses
204 Restrain horses using specified methods
205 Monitoring and maintaining health and safety
206 Maintain and develop personal performance
207 Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
You will also be required to choose further optional units. These will depend on which pathway you choose to do.
What qualifications will I get?Level 2 Diploma in Work based Horse Care
Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Horse Care
All qualifications will require apprentices to build separate portfolios of work, complete assignments and pass a range of assessments at each stage. Exemption from some of the functional skills is given for suitable GCSE passes.
What is the entry process?Submit an application form and attend an interview.
What are the entry requirements?Minimum qualifications: Level 1
GCSE Mathematics and English at D or equivalent. Applicants must be enthusiastic, have lots of stamina and ideally have some experience with horses.
What else do I need to know?You can only complete an apprenticeship if you are employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week at National Minimum Wage for apprenticeships. Please see the link for more details www.apprenticeships.org.uk

What can I do after this course?Successful completion of the Level 2 Apprenticeship may allow progression on to the Level 3 Apprenticeship, with the employers agreement and subject to having developed a high level of practical skills and appropriate job role.
