Course programme

Starting work in Housekeeping in Hotels can be daunting. There is so much to learn and so much to get right from the start in order that guests entering their Bedroom in an evening do not feel that the room has been used before.

Dirty Bathrooms, Unclean or Messy Sheets, Dirty Towels, are not what guests expect when entering their room which they have paid for.

The Housekeeping Department is involved in using many different products and equipment and the work can be Physically demanding.

Housekeeping Staff can be involved with customers who have not left their room for the day, customers checking in early or late, guests on stay over who have come back to their room early so they can have a lie down.

The qualification, therefore, covers many different areas.

Health and Safety is particularly important in the Housekeeping Department where the use of Vacuum Cleaners, Polishing Equipment, Chemicals for Cleaning - Toilets, Windows, Carpets, all have different requirements and safety issues which have to be addressed and understood.

The Housekeeping Department is also responsible for providing the bedrooms with the correct Linen, Toiletries which are defined by each establishment and it is then up to each housemaid to ensure the rooms are prepared and ready for guest arrivals.

This qualification helps the individuals to understand their role within the establishment and to understand their role within the department.
