You'll study modules such as:

Stage one

Induction Module - How to orientate yourself quickly into university life, and to navigate the on-line features associated with your programme

Concepts of Health and Wellbeing - Learn practical skills in diagnosing health conditions and the basics of public health

Genetics - You will gain a broad introduction to, and basic understanding of, the key concepts in classical and molecular genetics

Anatomy and Physiology - You will explore the relationship between structure and function in the human body

Chemistry of Life - You will be introduced to the basic concepts of chemistry and the fundamental processes of biochemistry

Practical Methods in Medical Bioscience - Introduction to medical research methodology including cellular pathology, clinical microbiology and clinical biochemistry

Introduction to Biological and Developmental Psychology - Learn how the brain works and explore concepts relevant to the study of child development

Stage two

Molecular Biology - You'll develop an understanding of the molecular basis of fundamental biological processes, such as transcription and translation

Human Physiology and Disease - You will develop a broad-based understanding of human diseases within the context of the normal physiological mechanisms

Independent Research and Professional Development - You will learn about instigating and conducting research, and develop your career planning for life after university

Optional modules:

Forensic Anthropology - A practical introduction to Forensic and Medical Anthropology, looking at what bones and other remains can tell us about the individuals that they belonged to

Biological and Developmental Psychology - Develop a critical understanding of the relationship between brain functioning and behaviour, including stress and addiction

Biomedical Professional Practice - Develop skills used by NHS diagnostic scientists, including Virology, Microbiology, Genetic testing, Histpathology, Clinical Biochemistry and Haematology

The Cell - You'll develop an understanding of eukaryote cell structure and function, and learn about current advances in topics such as stem cells and cancer

Human Reproduction - You will cover a range of topics in the field of human reproduction, including developmental genetics, infertility, pregnancy and childbirth

Physical Activity and Health - Provides an understanding to the incidence and causes of mortality and morbidity, and how exercise can help improve health

Nutrition and Metabolism for Sport and Exercise - Investigate the function and role of dietary macro nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins and micronutrients

Psychopathology - this module equips you with a basic understanding of mental disorders and prepares you for further study in this area, such as opting to study modules 'Schizophrenia' and 'Neuropsychology' in Stage Three

Industrial Placement Year (optional)

This course offers an ‘Industrial Placement Year’ giving you the opportunity to enhance your practical skills by putting theory into practice, network in your industry and stand-out in the graduate job market. The placement year takes place in your third year, once completed, you would return to University to complete your final year of studies.

Stage three

Independent Studies in Bioscience - You will undertake an independent piece of work of your choosing (subject to approval)

Biomedical Implications of Exercise - The health benefits of improved lifestyle and increased activity will be discussed in relation to physiological aspects of disease

Cell Signalling in Health and Disease - This module focuses on the regulatory mechanisms behind the cellular response to a variety of external signals

Oncology and Immunology - Explore the causes of cancer, how it is treated and what directions are currently being undertaken by cancer research scientists. Develop an understanding of medical immunology, including autoimmune disease

The Human Genome - You will develop your understanding of the molecular evolution of DNA sequences, bioinformatics and genomics

Neuropsychology - Explores problems that arise from brain injury that affects cognitive functioning

Science Communication - Explores the spectrum of delivery methods of scientific information in modern society including newspapers, museums, TV and the internet

Advanced Nutrition and Metabolism for Sport and Exercise - Covers advanced topics of nutrition for sport and exercise such as nutrigenomics and nutrigenetics, nutrition and immune function

Toxicology and Drugs of Abuse - Provides a comprehensive introduction to the multidisciplinary field of toxicology

Schizophrenia - Explore schizophrenia (its myths and origins) including biological, evolutionary, social and cognitive, and psychodynamic explanationsVocational Module - The student has freedom to select an appropriate host organisation to undertake a placement within a company, voluntary body or public establishment
