On this course, there's a core programme of practical exercises and workshops that is supplemented with lecture material. Through personal and small group tutorials, you'll also get valuable one-to-one feedback.
On Level 4 / Year 1, you'll cover the fine structure of cells, the biology of organisms, and biological processes. You'll develop a range of practical skills - from microscopy to experimental design. You'll also develop your communication skills by delivering presentations, preparing scientific posters and writing reports.
At Levels 5 and 6, you'll combine theory with practice to emphasise human physiological systems, behaviour and genetics. You'll also cover specialised topics such as neurobiology and neuropharmacology. Optional modules include health-related topics such as public health and toxicology.
The Professional Practice and Placement module will give you the skills to become a scientific problem solver. You'll develop these in your level 3 project, where you'll carry out research into an area of interest and focus on your future career.
For Level 7, your final year, your core modules will be: Advanced Research Methods; Advanced Biological Techniques; Specialist Topics in the Biosciences; Life Sciences Placement OR Biological Research Assistantship
If you would like to study a biology-based degree but your current qualifications do not meet our entry requirements for degree level study, our Biology with a Foundation Year is available.
