About this course
Hydrology is concerned with assessment of the natural distribution of water in time and space, and with evaluating the impact of manmade changes on the distribution and quality of this water. Applied hydrology has traditionally been concerned with floods and water resources. However, hydrologists are increasingly focusing on the problems of pollutant transport in surface water, soils and groundwaters, and wider issues such as the effects of land use and climate change. Hydrology is strongly multidisciplinary, and this course includes a basic treatment of relevant physical and life sciences, mathematical sciences, and systems analysis. All of our MSc courses are career-orientated and cover both theoretical background and practical design considerations. Lectures are given mainly by full-time staff but important contributions are made by visiting professors and guest lecturers who are eminent industrialists. Many of our students continue their studies to undertake research towards a PhD.
All applicants must apply online. You can usually apply for up to two courses, although your second choice will only be considered if your first-choice application is unsuccessful. Most courses don't have a formal closing date, but popular courses close when they are full, so you should apply early to avoid disappointment. There may also be funding deadlines that apply to you. You will need to upload documents with your applications, which may include transcripts and degree...

- Add-on module: Business management
- Design project
This course offers the add-on module of business management, which comprises 120 hours of study and they are taken as an alternative to the corresponding amount of engineering study.
This four-unit module equips you with the skills needed to work in competitive business environments in the civil engineering industry. It is suitable for those who wish to combine a technical competence in their chosen field with a grasp of the principles of business management. The module is designed to complement core material in the MSc courses.
Further details are available from the Department (cvenquiries@imperial.ac.uk).
Part-time studyAll of our MSc courses are also offered on a part-time basis with an attendance requirement of two days per week over two years.
