By hydroponic agriculture (or hydroponics) we mean one of the soilless cultivation techniques, as the earth is replaced by an inert substrate (expanded clay, perlite, vermiculite, coconut fiber, rock wool, zeolite, etc.). The plant is irrigated with a nutrient solution made up of water and compounds (mostly inorganic) necessary to provide all the essential elements for normal mineral nutrition. Hydroponics allows controlled productions both from a qualitative and a hygienic-sanitary point of view throughout the year.
