COURSE DESCRIPTION A new coaching qualification designed for those managers with a wider responsibility for coaching and mentoring to provide practising mangers with the knowledge, skills and confidence to perform effectively as coaches or mentors as part of their normal work role. This coaching programme supports managers in actively supporting the growth and development of their organisations and facilitating change by nurturing talent, enabling learning and development and encouraging personal growth and career development.

Developing Performance through Management Coaching and Mentoring (ILM Level 5 Certificate)

Unit 1: Understanding how management coaching and mentoring can benefit individuals and organisations

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explain the characteristics of effective coaches and mentors, and coaching and mentoring programmes
  • Present a business case for using coaching and mentoring in own organisation

Unit 2: Reviewing own ability as a management coach or mentor

Learning Outcomes:

  • Review the effect of own value systems and ability to deal with performance problems on own coaching and mentoring behaviour
  • Review own ability to communicate effectively and to use available networks to support coaching and mentoring practice

Unit 3: Undertaking management coaching or mentoring in the workplace

Learning Outcomes:

  • Agree short management coaching or mentoring programme based on indentified developmental needs and goals
  • Plan, deliver and review own management coaching or mentoring practice
  • Improve own management coaching or mentoring practice through to reflection and review

ILM Qualification - OPTIONAL

To undertake the qualification each participant must complete to a satisfactory national standard:

· A Work-based Assignment based on the first Unit.

· Twelve hours practical Coaching activity.

· A Coaching Diary, recording personal development, Coaching practice and reflections on that practice. Based on unit 2 & 3

Successful completion of the level 5 Certificate in Coaching & Mentoring in Management qualification provides eligibility for Associate membership (AMInstLM) of the Institute of Leadership & Management. This may be upgraded to Member (MILnstLM) depending on additional qualifications held.
