The Programme
iMedia (Web Development) develops the ability to create websites. It will normally be taken alongside a programme of three AS Levels, which may be in non computing subjects. iMedia will develop both your creative side and your technical computing ability. It will teach you design skills and how to apply these to create a website which is interactive and has animation.
Other subjects which would combine well with iMedia are: Computing, Maths, Physics, Engineering, Art, Design and Photography.
The Programme Content
Unit 1 - Digital Graphics
Use digital sourcing hardware to obtain bitmap digital graphics material
Use the manipulation tools and features of a digital image manipulation program to edit an image
Manipulate a bitmap digital graphic for a particular purpose
Unit 2 - Web Authoring
Plan and build a website with advanced features eg frames, rollovers, layers
Manage and upload a site
Create a website for a particular purpose
Unit 3 - Digital Animation
Create a digital animation
Add interactivity to an animation
Create a pre-loader for a digital animation
Optimise a digital animation (reduce file size, streaming etc.)
Produce a digital animation for a particular purpose
After completing the Certificate you may study Games Programming in the second year.
Progression / Careers
iMedia can be used as a platform for further study or to begin a career in electronic media.
iMedia carries the same UCAS points as an AS Level, helping you to gain university entry. Foundation Degrees are available at the College.
