Course programme
This course will appeal to anyone interested in a career in advanced light vehicle maintenance and repair. It is also suitable for those employed in the industry but who do not have a formal technical qualification to help them move on in their career.
What qualifications or experience do I need ?You will need an IMI level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair and a minimum of GCSE grades A*- D or Functional Skills Level 2 in English, Maths and science.
What will I study ?Candidates will study a range of topics including; Electrical and engine systems, chassis and transmission systems. They will also study; Health & Safety in the workplace. Diagnosing & rectifying light vehicle engine and component faults, chassis system faults, auxiliary equipment and electrical faults. Maintaining hybrid electric vehicle systems and low carbon fuel technologies.
How will I be assessed ?Candidates will be assessed through a combination of practical tasks in the motor vehicle workshop, written and online exams for all units studied, set written assignment (coursework).
What qualifications could I achieve ?Candidates will achieve a Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
How do I join the course ?You will need to complete an application form and return it to the admissions team either on-line or by post. You will then be interviewed by a member of the course team or other designated interviewer and may be required to complete a pre-enrolment assessment.

Any extra costs for equipment/materials ?Whilst every attempt is made to keep the costs to the candidate to a minimum, the college reserves the right to charge candidates amounts over and above published fees in response to any additional charges from the awarding body. You will need to purchase the department uniform, protective boots and course books. You will also have to pay for some trips and visits.
