You will take photographs using your SLR digital camera and use Photoshop CS6 to alter colour, levels, brightness and contrast. You will create a photographic portfolio based on an agreed theme, and this will involve some online research. The portfolio will be presented using PowerPoint and there will be an evaluation of work both during and at the end of the course. You will keep a journal/workbook throughout the course demonstrating the development of your photographic skills. There will be a photo shoot arranged on a Saturday morning at an English Heritage property to practice your photographic skills.

About this course
The course is for learners who have already completed the Introduction to SLR photography or have some basic SLR experience. The course is not suitable for point-and-shoot digital cameras.
Some prior knowledge of the SLR camera is required. You should understand the terms aperture, shutter, ISO and white balance. Basic ICT knowledge is essential as you will be required to download, and copy files.

Course programme
How will I learn?
Your tutor will teach you by lecture/discussion, demonstration, handouts and one-to-one help when appropriate. There will also be at least one photo shoot arranged at an agreed location.
How will my progress be monitored and assessed?
By your tutor on a weekly basis and also by your own individual learning plan.
Progression opportunities
You may wish to progress onto further photography courses or PhotoShop courses. There is a range of art and ICT courses on offer. Your tutor will be able to advise you further at the end of the course.
What equipment or materials will I need to provide?
You must provide your own SLR camera and you will also need a tripod. Please bring a notebook and pen to lessons. A small torch will be needed for night photography.
What other support is available?
Help with numeracy or literacy is available. ICT drop-in sessions are available during term time and are open to all learners. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Learner Support Funding is available for equipment, childcare and travel to learners who qualify.
