Course objectives
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to: Describe the major functions performed by IMS; Discuss the difference between logical and physical database views as implemented by IMS; Describe the significant features of IMS Data Communications facilities for online processing support, such as system definition, security control, logging and recovery, and conversational processing; Evaluate IMS support of data sharing for applications; Understand the basic terminology used by the vendor to describe the IMS environment in published system manuals.
By the end of this course you will have learned
A basic understanding of the IMS system; What database access methods are available; The concepts of hierarchical databases; How to issue DL/1 and IMS calls; Basics of an online transaction; What DL/1 utilities are available.
