Tutorial sessions (whether delivered in Jakarta or Online) are conducted by LSI’s world-class faculty comprised of former university professors, linguists, curriculum specialists, interpreters, translators, and former school teachers from Indonesia’s international school community. All Tutors/Mentors are university-accredited Language Teachers, and all are fully bilingual in English and Indonesian.

Course programme


THE BEGINNER PROGRAMME
The Beginner programme is designed to introduce absolute beginners to Bahasa Indonesia and provide them the basic skills necessary to survive in most day-to-day situations.

Courses focus on vocabulary acquisition and the use of simple grammatical structures.


THE INTERMEDIATE PROGRAMME
The Intermediate Programme focuses less on vocabulary acquisition and more with complex grammatical structures necessary for true ‘conversational luency.’

Both levels deal extensively with those “notorious” Indonesian prefixes and suffixes, and serve as preparatory courses for the Advanced Programme.

THE ADVANCED PROGRAMME
In the Advanced programme, students turn their attention away from ‘STUDYING THE LANGUAGE,’ and focus entirely on ‘USING THE LANGUAGE.’ Having already “studied” at the Beginner and Intermediate levels, students now attempt to develop the communication skills necessary to truly live their lives in Bahasa Indonesia.

Bearing no resemblance to the vocabulary and grammar lessons of the lower course levels, Advanced lessons are based almost entirely on ‘readings.’
Prior to each lesson students are assigned a text to read and respond to in writing.

During class time, this written response is used as the basisfor discussion and debate between the student and Tutor. To enhance these discussion sessions, students are encouraged to daily read the newspaper and bring articles of interest to the discussions.

As a secondary component, throughout the Advanced-level courses, students produce a multitude of business letters to serve various business purposes. Clients are welcome to suggest scenarios for these letters, based on their industry-specific needs.

At the Advanced level, there is no pre-determined vocabulary to be learned or pre-established grammar points to be addressed. Rather, the student USES THE LANGUAGE in genuine ways in order to begin developing advanced reading, writing, listening and speaking skills . . . and the Tutor addresses specific difficulties of the learner as they occur.

LANGUAGE STUDIES INDONESIA (LSI) is Jakarta's leading school for Bahasa Indonesia (the Indonesian language).

Founded by a consortium of Canadian and Indonesian educators. LANGUAGE STUDIES INDONESIA (LSI) is a unique Department of Education School, licensed to provide specialised education in Bahasa Indonesia, in accordance with the Indonesian Education Code and the Council of Europe's CEFR standard

Language instruction is delivered through two-hour private tutorial sessions (1 to 4 learners). Lessons may be conducted at the LSI LANGUAGE CENTRE in Jakarta, Indonesia, or students may study at their Jakarta home, office or hotel/guesthouse.

For students outside of Jakarta, courses are available ONLINE in 122 countries worldwide.

Lesson scheduling is flexible. Students design their own Weekly Lesson Schedules, studying as intensely as they wish - from two lessons weekly to three lessons daily.
