About this course

Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 3 (D) or above is required, applications from students who have a level 1 ICT/IT Diploma will be considered. If you have a real interest in ICT and are currently working on any of the subjects that we will be covering we would welcome an application.

Course programme

Year 1

The course introduces you to the rapidly developing world of information technology. You will study a wide range of subjects that will consist of:
The Online World – looking at social media, real-time communication, and instant messages; Technology Systems – learning about the computer system e.g. CPU, RAM, storage, GPUs and how data is carried between components in a PC; Software Development – you will learn the basic principles of computer programming and create your own programmes; Mobile Apps Development – create a phone app game You will learn how to design, create and test an app using the Android language.

Other units include: Digital Portfolio- showcase work on your website; Website Development- Create an interactive website; Computer Networks- Create and secure a network; Database Development- Create a relational database.

Additional information

Assessments will consist of two externally assessed exams, plus programme assessments. The exam will consist of multiple choice and short questions. The programme assessments will be marked internally.
