Our Information Systems degree is ideal if you want to combine current academic knowledge and skills in information systems with leading industry practice. The additional embedding of the SAP Business Suite within the curriculum means that you’ll be suited to a wide range of careers within the public and private sectors when you graduate.
This course will help you to develop the skills you need to understand business, communicate effectively with others, organise, plan and develop computer systems. It introduces the SAP Business Suite and the concepts of enterprise application software.
The course sits within computing, but differs from computer science courses by providing you with a solid understanding of computer based information systems. Your focus will be on the four elements of information systems:
1. Data
2. Technology
3. People
4. Organisations
You’ll develop an understanding of how information systems fit into organisations and you’ll be able to work on the management and deployment of information systems at strategic levels within any organisation.
After completing this course, you will have a good understanding of many of the challenges facing corporate business and IT and how the latest SAP products provide solutions to these challenges.
We’ll support your personal, academic and professional development throughout your study, so you’ll have solid foundations for continuing professional development throughout your life.
You’ll be taught via lectures, problem-based tutorials, practical lab sessions, surgeries and group-based sessions. You’ll work on case studies, investigations, and independent reading. You’ll also get to use our virtual learning environment, supported by a teaching team with a strong research background and industry experience.
In addition to this course being offered as a BSc Honours undergraduate award, it will also be available, subject to validation, as an MSci Integrated Masters degree from September...

Course programme

This degree sits within Computing and shares a common ethos with other Computing awards. There is an overarching teaching, learning and assessment strategy to ensure consistent approaches are adopted between awards. Modules resident in one award often contribute to several others.
Award outcomes individually define the set of learning objectives each student must satisfy (demonstrate) at each stage of an award. These outcomes directly relate to modules that sit within a given stage providing the opportunity for the student to learn and be assessed to confirm intended outcomes are achieved.
Each module is designed to ensure subject content, teaching delivery and assessment contribute to meet overall outcomes of an award. In choosing teaching, learning and assessment methods we ensure that the specific mechanism of delivery, the provided learning opportunity, and approach to assessment of the student s achievement form a combined equation that supports and enhances the entire education process.
Teaching methods used include lectures, problem-based tutorials, practical laboratory sessions, surgeries, and group-based activities. Learning approaches are chosen to be compatible to the method of delivery and can include: case studies, investigations, seminars, resource based learning, and independent reading. Extensive use is made of a virtual learning environment.
Contact hours are reduced as the student progresses thought the degree.
We are keen to create independent learners as they move though their studies and who become able to develop material independently.
