Intensive Course in Pattern Making & Production

From an idea to reality. How to transform a sketch into a piece of clothing. The ability to correctly interpret the evolution of lines, volumes and proportions.

Who is the Pattern Maker
The Pattern Maker is the central character of fashion companies. He works in close contact with the style office and is the bridge between style and production, creative ideal and industrialization. Manual ability and skill in choosing materials, together with a marked creative instinct and interpretation abilities, complete a professional role which is one of the most requested by fashion companies.

His or her task is to put on paper all collection proposals, transforming the sketch into a paper pattern which is the base upon which the cloth is cut for the creation of finished articles. He works with modern and traditional means, using computers and manual ability. He realises a final prototype, developing sizes, finalising its fitting and perfection ("first fitting of prototypes") in accordance with the various markets references, before sending it to the production.

During this one-year programme, you will face - in an intensive way - the most important topics of the production sector. You will initially learn the method to plan the basic foundations of model making. Afterwards, you will face the development of models, analysing lines and volumes.

Finally, you will interpret in an optimised way, the different style proposals, understanding the control method of the articles of clothing to correct possible structural faults. You will learn to choose the trinkets that are more in line with the realised article and its style, also according to the budget, in order to guarantee a market for your final product. You will understand the production chain and you will concentrate on the project management side of making a fashion collection.

The programme is mainly focused on practical lessons, concrete and intensive, to understand all the different phases of the model making technique and the manufacturing of the final product.
