INTERDISCIPLINARY MEDICAL SCIENCES: HEALTH MANAGEMENT, POLICY AND INFORMATION

Requirements

Dietetics is a "Limited Access" major. Students are formally admitted to the major program of study for Fall term only and must submit an application during the preceding Spring Term while taking DIE 3005 (DIE 3005 is also offered in the second six weeks of the summer for transfer students). Students may be admitted as NFA (not formally admitted) in any term.

Students must meet the following criteria for admission consideration:.
• Be an admitted or a current student of Florida State University,
• Have a 2.75 overall undergraduate GPA (may appeal if lower GPA with exceptional circumstances; contact department),
• Have HUN 1201 (3) Science of Nutrition completed with a final grade of 'B' or higher ( a B minus does not qualify),
• Complete DIE 3005 (1) Intro to Dietetics with a grade of “satisfactory (S)”.

DIE 3005 is offered in spring semester and in summer session C (second six weeks). Transfer students will have the opportunity to take this course in the second six weeks of the summer (session C) at FSU before admission decisions are made. Admission decisions will be made in August.

Other criteria that will be considered for admission to this major

Indicator an aptitude in the sciences, with preferably a grade of 'B' or better in the following:

• CHM 1045, 1045L General Chemistry I, Lab
• CHM 1046, 1046L General Chemistry II, Lab
• CHM 2200, 2200L Organic Chemistry (or CHM 2210 and CHM 2211 with labs or other approved organic chemistry courses); transfer students may take CHM 2210, CHM 2211 and labs before transferring to FSU or take CHM 2200, 2200L over the summer at FSU (when taking DIE 3005).

• Commitment to become a registered dietitian.
• Experience in or an understanding of the field of dietetics.

Major Program of Studies at FSU: 57 hours

In order to graduate with a major in Dietetics, students must achieve a minimum FSU overall GPA of 2.5.

Students must earn a B or higher in DIE 4310, DIE 4244 and DIE4244L, FSS 4315, HUN 1201,HUN3403 and HUN4296 and a grade of C minus or higher in all other required courses.

Graduates of the DPD program earn a DPD verification statement and are eligible to apply to graduate school and/or post baccalaureate, accredited dietetic internships. The dietetic internship, which provides the competencies for the supervised practice component of dietetic education, is required for eligibility to take the national Registration Examination for Dietitians.
