This major provides academic preparation designed to enable the graduate to enter the profession of interior design. The program has been accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA).

The undergraduate program in interior design provides students with a basic understanding of environment-, economy- and society-related interior spatial issues using scientific, social scientific or humanistic approaches or a combination. Emphasis is placed on learning the means of satisfying functional and aesthetic requirements appropriate for a variety of specific interior spatial uses. Evidence-based consideration is given to the human being and the micro–environment in the total complex of environmental relationships. Students recognize the contributions made by other disciplines concerned with the study of interior design, including regulations and building codes, economics, social aspects, indoor environmental quality that covers indoor air quality, thermal comfort, acoustics, and lighting, and the interactions of human beings and the built environment. The additional focuses are on sustainable and green design applications, 2D and 3D visualization, and scientific data collection and analytical methods for producing comprehensive solutions. The combination of courses and experiences provides students an opportunity to develop knowledge, skills, and insights needed to solve design problems scientifically, creatively and effectively.
