This Interior Design Level 3 course is designed to give students the knowledge and understanding of the design sector and develop their skills to work as an interior designer. It explores the main concepts of design and addresses the skills which are used to produce stunning room designs for clients.

About this course
To complete this Interior Design Level 3 course you will need to submit, and pass, all of the tutor marked assignments. There are six assignments in the course and no need to purchase any textbooks as we provide all of the lessons and materials required to learn the syllabus.
All assignments are coursework based and are in an essay/question and answer style to test your knowledge of the topics covered in each of the course sections.

Course programme
This course assesses the following units:
Unit 1: Project Fundamentals
- Appreciate the whole design process from start to finish
- Understand project planning and schedules that are needed for you to be able to carry out your work and plan effectively
- Describe the project planning process and the various phases incorporated in this
- Appreciate different presentation types and how these help to communicate your ideas to clients.
- Understand the use of whole number proportions in interior design
- Understand the golden ratio and why this is used in design
- Describe the kitchen zones and why these are important within the kitchen area
- Identify various different layout needs for several rooms within the home
- Understand the use of colour and colour theory
- Work with different colours and contrasting schemes to create palettes that can be used
- Make links between colour and space that is used in a space
- Understand materials that are used in rooms and the best uses for wallpapers, vinyls and different types of flooring
- Understand the links between colours, textures and flooring used for interior design purposes
- Appreciate natural light and how it can impact upon design
- Understand how to filter and funnel natural light within a space and use the orientation of a room to enhance lighting
- Understand various types of artificial light and their purposes
- Understand various mechanical systems such as heating, lighting and plumbing which are used in various locations
- Understand accessories and when these are used by designers
- Appreciate the difference between functional accessories and decorative accessories
- Understand the use of art and design to produce minimalistic or cluttered designs
- Appreciate sustainability and using recycled resources
- Understand key characteristics required to be a successful interior designer
- Analyse how you can provide quality customer service to clients and be reliable on the job
- Look at ways in which you can work to listen and support your clients in all stages of the design process
- Describe ways in which you can offer great services to meet your client’s needs at all times
Assessments
To pass this course learners must pass 6 assignments. These are completed after navigating through the corresponding lessons and writing your answers to assignment questions. Once these have been read and marked by your personal tutor, feedback and marks are provided to students which contain helpful tips to improve work in future assignments.
