Course Overview:
This Intermediate Apprenticeship programme is designed for those in a role in the IT & Telecoms sector. Apprentices can work in areas such as Software & Web Development, Technical Support, Telecommunications and in roles such as Software/ Web Developer, Desktop Support Engineer, Network Planner, Database Administrator, Network Engineer or Software Tester.

Progression Opportunities:
It allows candidates to progress into a more senior role or possibly (depending on job role) to progress onto other qualifications such as Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship.

We would require a pre-course meeting with you and your employer to discuss the course and to establish that this level and course content is suitable. We will also check that the candidate has the ability to demonstrate competence in administrative and managerial working practices within their current work role.

Course programme

Course Delivery:

The framework includes a balance of content in technical, business and interpersonal areas, designed to ensure apprentices have an appropriate set of skills to operate in today’s IT &Telecoms job roles.

The technical content includes units for Software Development, Web Development, Technical Support and data communications. Under the apprenticeship framework, the apprenticeship can also undertake learning and units specific to the employer needs.

The Apprenticeship Framework at Level 3 consists of the following qualifications:

  • City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Professional Competence (4520-03).
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in ICT Systems Support (7540-13).
  • Essential Skills (Wales) Level 2 in: Communication, Application of Numbers and Digital Literacy.

The Apprenticeship also has mandatory units such as:

  • Communication and Employability Skills for IT
  • Health & Safety
  • Computer Systems
  • Develop own effectivenessand professionalism

The Apprenticeship also has these optional specialist units:

  • Security of ICT systems
  • Software Installation and upgrade
  • System operation
  • Technical fault diagnosis

Other optional unite available depending on individual and employer needs.

Additional information

Additional Information: You will have learned your skills on the job or by attending training courses and your assessor will help you to identify if there are any skills gaps which need to be filled prior to assessment. The QCF/NVQ is a competence based qualification, delivered through work based learning and workshops. GCS Training is represented by assessors and tutors who have all previously worked within industry. Between them, they are qualified in all the major aspects of IT, such as software development, management. The team members include qualified assessors, internal quality assurers and teachers who, between them, have many years’ experience of assessing, teaching and training delivering to all levels from Level 1 to Level 4.
