Course Summary:
This qualification will enable learners to develop the knowledge and skills needed when supporting teaching and learning in primary, secondary or special schools.
It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people's development, supporting those with disabilities or special educational needs, and communication and professional relationships.
The course is a one-year programme, with three days at College and two days on placement within a school environment.
You will also work towards your Functional Skills/GCSE Maths and English.
Entry requirements
You need a profile of five GCSEs at grade D, along with evidence of good attendance, punctuality, self motivation and a positive attitude to study.
You must be willing to provide evidence for an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check which will have to be self-funded.

Course programme

Course Content: You will study at College three days a week and spend two days on placement within a school environment. At College you will cover units centred around themes such as: Child development Safeguarding Communication Health and safety Equality, diversity and inclusion Schools as organisations During your placement, you will be required to carry out tasks which include child observations, activity plans and reflective diaries. To support your main programme of study, help your future progression and enhance your life skills, you will also develop your maths and English skills. How will I be assessed? Assessments are set by CACHE and will include assignments, presentations, planning for children, and written work for each unit. Functional Skills and GCSEs will be assessed by portfolio and online assessment. Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required? You should have flat shoes, smart trousers and a placement top that you will need to buy from College for your placement. You also need: A DBS check A course text book An A4 ring binder, paper and pens What can I do after this course? Further study There is the opportunity to progress to the Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning programme if you successfully achieve: Good grades in this qualification Progression in maths and English Good attendance both at College and on your placement
