The Apprenticeship Hairdressing programme is for those people who have recently started or are about to start working in a hairdressing salon who wish to achieve an industry recognised hairdressing qualification. This programme is fully funded for 16-18 year olds, and partially funded for the 19+ age group. THERE WILL BE NEW STANDARDS INTRODUCED AS PART OF THE APPRENTICESHIP REFORM ACROSS ALLTHE OCCUPATIONAL AREAS FROM 2015.
APPRENTICESHIP FRAMEWORK
The Framework is made up of a number of components. In order to be successful you must complete and achieve all elements.
• MAIN NVQ
The full award in Hairdressing at NVQ Level 2 comprising of 9 units which specify the minimum levels of performance required to work as a qualified hairdresser.
• FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
Level 1 English
Level 1 Maths
• EMPLOYMENT RESPONSIBILITIES AND RIGHTS & EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY
This is an assignment based project
• PERSONAL LEARNING AND THINKING SKILLS
You will require a professional Hairdressing Kit. We will provide you with the personal equipment list for you to purchase your own. There is also a £35 fee to cover trips and activities.
You will need to buy a salon uniform and a course book at the start of the programme.
The break at Christmas is scheduled 2 weeks earlier to allow for the busy Christmas period.
Trainees will be required to attend College for a period of time during July and August.

Course programme
The programme provides you with a basic qualification and the skills necessary for your career in hairdressing. It will enable you to develop your expertise in the salon and progress to the level 3 stage. If you wish to join a level 3 programme to develop your creative and technical skills with a view to developing your career in the salon we will be happy to advise you.
You will be interviewed as part of the admissions process which will include screening and a trade assessment. Ideally you should have 3 GCSEs grade C or above, in English and Maths and one other subject. The successful applicants will be expected to show the personal qualities required for working in the hairdressing industry. To enrol, you MUST be employed over 30 hours per week in a salon, to start an Apprenticeship, please contact us should you need help in finding suitable employment. Apprentices are paid a wage by the employer. Your employer is required to give you a contract of employment, which will include holiday entitlement and all other benefits.
We want you to achieve to the very best of your ability at CRC. To make this happen we offer both learning and personal support by specialist staff tailored to meet your specific needs.
Your assessments will take place mainly in your workplace and the rest in the college salon on fee-paying clients.
The assessment for each unit is a mix of working on clients to a stated practical standard, answering questions to demonstrate your understanding of the theory and completing some written work for some of the units.
