Global Value Chains and Sustainability in the Global Economy
This course examines how globalisation has transformed economies and value chains, and how sustainability is governed in this evolving context. You will explore the shift from public to private governance, the role and effectiveness of sustainability standards such as Fair Trade and Rainforest Alliance, and the ways in which businesses and countries pursue economic, social, and environmental upgrading. The course also addresses key features of the new global economy, including international trade, foreign direct investment, the growing role of services, data, and knowledge, as well as global money and finance. Emerging challenges such as robotisation, artificial intelligence, climate change, and global governance frameworks are discussed to highlight future directions. Case studies and current industry practices are used to connect theory with real-world applications.
International Business in the Green Economy
This course explores how businesses can integrate sustainability into their global operations and strategies. Divided into two themes—Strategy for Sustainable Growth and Innovation and Sustainable HR Management and Ethical Business Practices—the course covers green economy concepts, eco-innovation, and the development of sustainable business models. It reflects how businesses can navigate the green economy through innovation, sustainable growth strategies, and responsible resource management while aligning with global environmental goals. You will also learn how HR strategies can support fair labor conditions, ethical supply chains, and employee well-being, ensuring that sustainability is addressed not only as an environmental challenge but also as a social and economic imperative. Case studies and real-world practices illustrate how businesses can enhance competitiveness, resilience, and corporate responsibility while responding to the complexities of the green economy.
