This top up degree allows you to achieve a BA (Hons) in International Business Communication in just one year of full-time study. It is aimed at international students who have successfully completed a two year diploma at post-18 level, and who wish to top-up their qualifications to degree level.

The course equips you with the necessary knowledge, skills and awareness to operate appropriately and effectively within a global economy, and to ascertain an enterprising spirit. You will develop your English language proficiency (both written and spoken) in an international business context, and an understanding of cross-cultural communication necessary to embrace global citizenship. You will also gain an in-depth knowledge of the global business environment, to which you can, through optional choices, add enhanced knowledge of theories and applications in the subject area which you have studied up to Dip HE level before arriving at Wolverhampton.

About this course

As a graduate of this course you will be able to:


understand and analyse theories of international business culture, to enable you to communicate effectively in an international context and to operate as a global citizen
understand and apply the main features of English syntax/lexis/phonology/register and be able to express concepts effectively, fluently and spontaneously demonstrating a broad lexical repertoire
understand, compare, analyse and evaluate cultural differences, including business and corporate cultures and analyse cross-cultural incidents and suggest suitable strategies/solutions
find and summarise relevant information from a range of demanding texts and sources, question concepts/theories and their application, understand significance and limitations of theory/research, provide structured and reasoned synthesis/argument and monitor, evaluate and develop your own performance
be digitally literate and use ICT competently for communication and learning, as well as work effectively with others, manage and improve your own learning and analyse and solve problems.



2019 Entry

You must have completed a Diploma of Higher Education or equivalent in any subject, preferably related to Business, Management, Media or Communication.

This course is open to non-native speakers of English, who should have achieved at least a score of IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each element, or equivalent.

Course programme

You will study two English for Business modules which will help you identify and work on your strengths and weaknesses in English proficiency, and improve your ability to communicate in a range of contexts. You will gain experience in presentations, interviews, negotiations and report writing.

You will explore topics such as business, management, communication and public relations. Other modules will raise your awareness of cultural diversity in a global context, in particular the context of the European Union and other major international economic and political institutions. Depending on your prior qualifications, you will be able to choose Option Modules which explore topics such as business, management, communication and public relations.

You will study three modules per semester and for each module your will receive 4 hours a week of contact/teaching for 12 weeks i.e. 48 hours per module per semester.

You will be assessed in a variety of ways, mostly coursework such as reports, essays, presentations or small group discussions.

Many learning methods will be used, including lectures, interactive sessions with lecturers, and independent study through our virtual learning environment and tutorials.
