Course outline
International managers need to have qualities such as drive and leadership. They need to be good communicators and sensitive to different cultures and traditions. Those who possess them are hugely valued by good employers.
This course has been designed so that the various subjects support each other. In particular, part of the Business teaching is carried out in French, German or Spanish.
Thanks to this unique integrated structure, the course remains a market leader for students wanting to study Business and Modern Languages.
Subject guide & modules
The integrated nature of the degree means that it has been designed as a whole, and the structure of it is the same, whichever languages you are taking.
On the degree, you’ll learn how to identify your customers, how businesses can be organised, how to understand financial information and how businesses take account of the world’s governments. All of these subjects are given an international dimension.
Learning, teaching & assessment
You will experience a range of teaching methods including lectures, tutorials, group-working, case studies and both individual and group presentations. Traditional teaching is supported by a virtual learning environment that is used to host a range of electronic supporting materials.
Assessment is provided by a mix of coursework and examination.
Placement year
Our integrated placement course allows you to undertake a professional paid placement abroad and/or a study placement.
Work abroad
We only approve placements which give you an appropriate level of experience and will develop your business knowledge as well as your language skills.
Study abroad
The Business Schools with which we have exchange agreements are highly regarded within their own countries and you will follow a year of their own course alongside local students
You may also select to divide your year between a Business School and a six-month placement
Career prospects
As a graduate you will be ready for the challenge of a business career, either in the UK or abroad. Your business expertise, cultural awareness and linguistic proficiency will be of particular value to companies operating in international markets and to multinational companies.
Graduates are now working in graduate-level roles for companies such as:
- Goldman Sachs

- Reuters
Of our 2007 graduates, none reported being unemployed within six months of graduating.
Personal development
Our business degrees are designed to also give you a range of transferable and practical skills to succeed within your chosen career. We make extensive use of group working and presentations to prepare you for the reality of working life. Such work develops skills such as team working and negotiating abilities.
Our placement year gives you the genuine practical work experience that is invaluable in developing an appreciation of issues such as office politics which cannot be replicated in the lecture room.
