Course Structure and Content
In year one you join all Education Studies students in a core module that introduce key concepts and skills that underpin the subject. You will also study a compulsory module that takes an international perspective on education. You are required to study a second subject from our modular programme alongside education, for the first year.
In year two you will consider more deeply the current issues in education in a second core module. This module incorporates a placement in a school or other educational setting. A second compulsory module develops your understanding of comparative education and there is an opportunity for a self-funded study trip to Zambia. A wide range of optional modules allow you to develop other interests related to teaching, classrooms, diversity, inclusion, educational policy, arts education, the internet. You can also opt to study abroad in another European country under the ERASMUS scheme.
In year three you are required to select one international education module and a research-based module: you will identify your own topic to research and will be assigned a tutor who will support you throughout the year. There is also wide range of optional modules available taught by expert staff on topics such as childhood, learning, arts education and education policy. There is a further opportunity for an international placement by choosing our third year 'project' module.
Assessment Methods
Assessment of education studies is through coursework and work on placements; currently there are no examinations.

As an Education Studies graduate you will be able to apply for PGCE courses in teacher training, including ours at Bath Spa University if you have the required GCSEs.
