The global financial and business environment is rapidly changing, and a different market reality based on a global marketplace is emerging.

The online MSc International Finance course aims to provide you with a comprehensive program of study of international finance, providing you with the knowledge and professional skills to develop a career in banking or another financial institution dealing with international operations.

You will develop a broad vision and understanding of the changing role and nature of finance within the context of a global marketplace. You will become competent in dealing with international investment and financing transactions, international payments and exchange rates. In addition to traditional areas of international finance, the course will provide skills in areas including responses to international financial crises and cryptocurrencies. About this course

We are one of the first universities in the West Midlands offering an online Master’s in international finance.
We offer a flexible learning approach to help you manage your workload and the balance with your professional and personal commitments. A variety of methods will be used including synchronous, asynchronous and collaborative learning. With asynchronous learning (self-study) you will learn 10 Moodle sessions, released in two-week blocks, which will consist of online content that you can work through at your own pace.
We provide content relevant to the latest practice. The design of our programme reflects growing demand in new areas of international finance including cryptocurrency and their usage in international payments, Fintech and crowdfunding.
Teaching staff have practical experience in international finance and are actively involved in research in these areas.
This course aims to provide you with a comprehensive programme of study of international finance, providing you with the knowledge and professional skills to develop a career in banking or another financial institution dealing with international operations. Potential careers include such positions as international credit and loan officer, financial advisor, global risk manager, treasury specialist, underwriter, and international payment consultant.

Course programme

What's covered in the course?

The MSc International Finance course will consist of 6 taught modules, and a dissertation module, all delivered by online methods. It consists of three stages (PG Certificate, PG Diploma and Masters), and each stage is 60 credits. Stage One and Two consist of 3 modules each, 20 credits per module. Stage Three consists of a 60 credit Dissertation module. Essential elements within each stage are as follows:

Stage One (PG Certificate)

Students will receive an introduction to financial institutions and financial markets via the Financial Institutions and Regulation module. This module will be offered along with Strategic Risk Management and Advanced Corporate Finance. These modules will help students to develop their skills in risk management as well as in financial and quantitative analysis.

Stage Two (PG Diploma)

Students will take two core modules:

  • International Payments, Digital Banking and Cryptocurrencies
  • Global Finance

Also in Stage 2 students will select among optional modules available based on their interests, including Security Analysis and Management, Investigating Finance Practice and Islamic Social Finance.

Stage Three (Masters)

This continues the development of students’ knowledge in international finance, exploring how to apply a variety of skills to analyse practical cases. At this stage, students will complete a dissertation, a piece of independent research that links theory to practice, building on and developing such skills as critical analysis, problem solving and synthesis of data to produce appropriate research outcomes.
