Course programme

London Meridian College is proud to offer full-time and intensive courses for students who need extra guidance in their preparation for the Legal English leading to the International Legal English Certificate (ILEC).

The courses include:

  • A structured course covering the main aspects of Legal English.
  • Visits to see the London courts in action.
  • Guidance in preparing for the Cambridge ILEC Certificate Exam.
  • Exam registration service.

What is the International Legal English Certificate (ILEC)?

The ILEC is:

  • An Advanced Examination (set at levels B2 and C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) which assesses language skills in a legal context.
  • A Cambridge ESOL Examination, produced and assessed in collaboration with Translegal, Europe's leading firm of lawyer-linguists.
  • Recognised by leading associations of lawyers including the European Company Lawyers Association, the European Law Students Association, the International Association of Young Lawyers, and the European Young Bar Association.

Why take the International Legal English Certificate (ILEC)?

The ILEC is for law students or practising lawyers who are:

  • Seeking employment in an international commercial law context.
  • Intending to study law where the course includes a significant English language content, either in their own country or abroad.
  • Seeking promotion within their own organisation.
  • Learning English as part of a training programme.

Duration: 12 weeks as full time or 2 weeks as intensive.

Start dates: You can join on any Monday.

A two-week intensive course (6 hours a day) is also available to students with less time to spend in the capital. This course includes preparation for the ILEC exam as well as a special case study, looking at a real court case and the use of English surrounding the case.

Similarly to any other courses leading to exams your chances of success depend on the amount of self study you do on your after school hours.
