About this course

International exposure brings added value to your academic, personal and professional development and enables you to build your global network. Both traditional and innovative teaching methods, enhanced by state-of-the-art technology, are used to provide a wide range of learning experiences.
Our four year course is designed to equip you with the knowledge and employability skills for a successful career in global business. Your third year will be spent abroad, in either a partner institution and/or working on an approved work placement. This will increase your confidence, cultural awareness and prepare you for your final year and future career. In your fourth year you will return to WBS to complete your studies, empowered by your overseas experience.

Our graduates have gone on to work for organisations including: Goldman Sachs, Jaguar Land Rover, KPMG, Procter & Gamble, EDF Energy.

Examples of our graduates’ job roles include: Finance Analyst, Merchandising Executive, Actuarial Associate, Communications Consultant, Human Resource Manager. Some graduates have chosen to start their own businesses or work with other start-ups.

Course programme

Year one modules are core and could include Introduction to Financial Accounting; Economics for Business; CORE Practice; Integrative Project; Management Organisations & Society; Foundations of Financial Management and Quantitative Analysis for Management I and II, Markets, Marketing & Strategy, and Operations Management.

Year two modules may include Global Environment of Business; Governance, Politics and Corporate Accountability; Global Integrative Project; Economics of Strategy and you may also choose six elective modules from a range of topics such as marketing, strategy, entrepreneurship, accounting, finance, economics or a language.

Year three: whether you are studying or working abroad, you will also take two core modules: International Management in Context, and Year Abroad Portfolio which are submitted on your return in year 4. This year counts for 10%of your final degree classification. You will also attend a compulsory workshop in term two at an appropriate location near to where you are studying/working.

Year four modules may include Critical Issues in Management along with eight elective modules which can be chosen from range of topics such as marketing, strategy, accounting, finance, economics or a language.

How will I learn?

Teaching is delivered via lectures and seminars. Lectures will be in larger groups of up to 450 in your first year, and seminars (also known as tutorials) are taught in smaller groups of around 20-25. As you progress to your second and final years you will find that some of the lectures are smaller as you all follow different optional modules.

You will have around 15 hours of lecture and seminar contact time with WBS academics and will be expected to complete around 20 hours of private study per week. This may include preparing for seminars and lectures by reading set texts, working through problem sets, participating in group work, writing essays and reports, and revising for tests and examinations.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through a combination of end of year examinations and on-going assessments, which may include essays, research assignments, projects, case study analysis, class tests, presentations and group work.
