MIP is a is two-year, full time program that supports students to develop knowledge and skills to prepare for professional careers in international policy. The program is interdisciplinary in nature, and students are encouraged to pursue coursework that spans academic fields at Stanford. The M.A. degree is earned through completion of core coursework, the area of specialization, and the practicum. This is a professional, terminal degree so work experience is preferred but not required for admission. Additionally, application to the program does not require completion of any prerequisite coursework, although it is strongly recommended that admitted students have a foundation of knowledge in algebra and/or calculus, introductory microeconomics, and introductory macroeconomics.
