What are the reasons for violence and conflict? Why do some states go to war with each other but not with others? What is the link between identity, conflict and co-operation? What is the effect of globalisation? International Relations as a discipline looks at the interaction between states and at the relationship between states and non-state actors, such as the UN the EU, NATO and multinational corporations in a global world.
