Description

Type
Short course
This course gives an overview of internal and external applications. It then details the different CFD methods which can be applied to each of the wide ranges of flow types present. The methods will be discussed in terms of range of applicability, expected accuracy and computational expense. In addition, a series of case studies demonstrating appropriate use of CFD methods in automotive design will be presented. Finally, hands-on experience is gained using the commercial software FLUENT and a panel method (for rapid assessment of aerodynamic loading).

What you will learn
Following this course you will have a critical awareness of the range of internal and external flows in which CFD methods can be used. You will be able to critically evaluate the limitations of each potential CFD method, and then select the appropriate one to be used in a given automotive problem.
The sponsoring organisation benefits from having an employee or researcher who has a broad appreciation of the CFD methods which can be employed in each of the vastly different flow types present in a typical vehicle. This will have a direct impact on the capability of the candidate, and hence improve the quality of projects delivered.
