This course teaches the basics of beekeeping and gives an outline of what taking on a hive of bees will entail for the complete beginner. Suitable for: People seriously thinking about keeping bees or who have an enthusiastic interest, but do not know where to start. If you want to make your own Devon honey or other bee related products, or just to enjoy watching them work your garden.

Beekeepers
Ken Basterfield, BSc. (Hons.), C.Eng. MIEE, NDB Beekeeper for 35 years. Holds a National Diploma in Beekeeping has lectured and instructed on beekeeping subjects for the past twenty five years, is an appointed examiner for the British Beekeepers Association, and is appointed Course Organiser for the National Diploma in Beekeeping preparatory courses. Daniel Basterfield, BSc. (Hons.) Beekeeper since the age of two, holder of the British Beekeepers Association Intermediate certificate in beekeeping, studying towards the Advanced certificate, member of the Bee Farmers Association.

Meet the Honey Bees
A course designed as an introduction to beekeeping, to be presented by local professional beekeepers Ken and Dan Basterfield, both highly-regarded members of the British Beekeepers Association.
Course Content
- History of the honeybee, beekeeping and interaction with the environment
- Pollination, honey wax and propolis, topical problems
- Components of the hive, equipment, clothing
- Caring for honeybees: beekeepers year, swarming, harvesting, health
- Plants and produce: sites, plants, honey, beeswax
