This course will cover the following:

  • Brief history of the Corset.
  • History and types of fabrics/boning/busks etc.
  • The importance of measurements taken and pattern cutting; fitting.
  • Making the ‘toil': adjusting for size with this.
  • The important features involved in the construction of the Corset.
  • Components that will be used; cutting; inserting busks and grommets.
  • Making-up; final fitting and finishing off.

At the end of 10 weeks students had made for themselves an authentic Victorian (c1860) unlined Dore Corset.
