Course Overview

The course will be delivered on a quarterly basis and is aimed at advisors; local authority staff; energy managers and householders who want an introduction to the main renewable energy technologies to include grants, planning issues and combining the different technologies. No previous knowledge of renewable energy is assumed.

What you will learn

At the end of the course delegates will be able to

  • Understand the basics of energy
  • Be aware of Government commitments and targets on greenhouse gases and renewable energy production
  • Distinguish between the main types of renewable energy technology
  • Identify what each technology can do
  • Start the process of identifying which are the most appropriate technologies for any given situation

Course Content

It will also include a workshop in which delegates will discuss the most appropriate renewable energy technologies for a number of different hypothetical scenarios. However, there is scope for delegates to bring their own scenarios for discussion, provided that they are discussed with the course tutors no later than the morning tea break. At the end of each presentation there will be an opportunity for delegates to ask questions about the technology presented. In addition there will be a presentation on how the different technologies can be combined together.

The renewable energy basics course is limited to a maximum of sixteen delegates to allow for an effective workshop session at the end of the day and to allow plenty of opportunity for delegates to ask questions. Anyone with special dietary requirements should make their needs known at the time of booking.

This is a non-residential training course.
