Course Overview:
This course is designed to facilitate candidates in building an awareness of the subject of substance misuse - what drugs are, and how to overcome common misconceptions on substance misuse.
This course is appropriate to a wide ranging target population from post-14 years including employers, educators, health and social care workers, substance misuse workers [including volunteers], parents and the general public who are interested in this field.
The course aims to:
To build knowledge of the various substances commonly associated with substance misuse, their effects, appearance, and street names.
Introduce the synthetically designed drug box which allows participants to visualise a variety of substances in true form and how they are administered.
Provide an accessible and flexible learning opportunity for a wide range of individuals.
To create awareness that first aid may be necessary in drug related incidents.

Progression Opportunities:
Students who already work with substance abusers may want to undertake one of the City & Guilds Substance Misuse QCF Qualifications.
Entry Requirements:
Candidates should be at least 14 years of age and have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy necessary to comply with the Health and Safety aspects of the qualification and the completion of evidence requirements.

Course Delivery:
The course is delivered on a BESPOKE basis only to organisations and requires a group booking n of approximately 8 learners or more for a fee of £75 pp vat exempt .
(Delivery can be at the college or your own premises)
is delivered over one day and all aspects of training are designed to encourage and engage participants to be actively involved in their learning through reflective practices and to contribute their own experiences.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Understand drug misuse.
- Recognise and respond to drug misuse.
- Communicate with young people about drugs.
- What to do in an overdose situation.
- Recognition of substances with the aid of the drug box.
- Show awareness of issues concerning alcohol use/misuse.
