Course Summary:
This one-day course is aimed at giving you a basic understanding relating to zoological animal health and husbandry. You will gain theoretical knowledge on zoo health, nutrition, behaviour and enrichment, while applying this practically to some exotic zoo species we house here at Derby College.
Entry requirements
This course is suitable for anyone aged eight years and over. You should have a general interest in zoological animal health and husbandry. You should also have a keen willingness to participate in both the practical and theory aspects of the course.

Course programme

Course Content: The course will cover: Zoo animal health Zoo animal behaviour Zoo welfare and care Zoo animal nutrition Zoo enrichment and enclosure design How will I be assessed? There will be a practical assessment on enrichment provision for a nominated zoo animal. You will receive a College Certificate of Attendance on successful completion of the course. Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required? You will be required to supply your own: Lunch Notebook and paper All clothing you choose to wear on the day will need to be suitable for a practical session e.g. it should be free from drawstrings. You should wear trousers/jeans, tie long hair back and ensure you are wearing no jewellery. What can I do after this course?
